Our Story

More Than
a Boxing
Club.

Broad Street Boxing was founded in 1987 in a single back room with two punchbags, a patched speed ball, and a group of kids from the estate who had nowhere else to go. More than three decades on, we're still here — and we still believe boxing has the power to transform a life.

We're not a franchise. We're not a boutique fitness studio. We're a proper amateur boxing club — affiliated with England Boxing — run by coaches who came up through the sport and give their time because they believe in what they're doing.

From total beginners stepping onto a gym floor for the first time, to competitive fighters chasing national titles, everyone is welcome here. We train hard, we respect each other, and we leave ego at the door. That's been our culture since day one.

What They
Say.

"I'm 43 and just decided to learn boxing this year. Never too late they say. Andy is an amazing coach — he has really good training plans and knows how to explain everything for a total beginner. I feel very lucky I can learn from him. If you want to learn boxing don't hesitate to call Andy, he is the best you can find in this area."

"Started when I was 10, been doing it for years — now I'm a carded amateur boxer after winning 7 consecutive fights at White Collar level. Coaches are very friendly, laid back but still push you. Very good environment to learn boxing and get fit. This sport and this club changed my life."

"The coach is very nice — a free mint choc chip ice cream kind of bloke."

Got
Questions?

Not at all. The majority of our members started with zero boxing experience. Our Beginner Fundamentals sessions are built for people who have never thrown a punch. You'll learn alongside others at a similar stage — no fitness level required. We'll meet you where you are.

We welcome juniors from age 8 in our dedicated Under 16s programme. Sessions are age-grouped and follow England Boxing's safeguarding guidelines strictly. Younger participants focus on technical skills, fitness, and character — competitive sparring only begins when both the boxer and their coach agree they're ready.

For your first few sessions: just yourself, trainers, and a water bottle. We have loaner gloves and wraps for beginners. Once you're sticking around, we'll advise on your own gloves, wraps, gumshield, and headguard for sparring — with a recommended kit list that won't break the bank.

Monthly membership is £35 for adults and £25 for juniors, covering unlimited access to all eligible sessions. Your first session is always free — no strings attached. England Boxing registration is included in the annual fee, which covers you for competition if you go down that route.

Yes — as an England Boxing affiliated club we enter boxers in licensed bouts throughout the year, from local shows to regional and national championships. Competition is always optional and readiness-based, never pressured. We've produced multiple regional champions and national finalists, and we take pride in how we prepare our fighters on and off fight night.

Comfortable gym clothes you can move freely in — shorts or joggers, a t-shirt or vest. Trainers with a flat or thin sole are ideal, but standard trainers are fine for day one. Avoid anything with exposed zips or metal eyelets that could catch on the bags. Beyond that, just come as you are.
